Tag Team Title Tournament
Round 1
Match 1: Claudio Castagnoli & PAC vs. Lucha Bros (Penta El Zero Miedo & Rey Fenix)
Build-up: The European wrestling juggernauts, Claudio Castagnoli and PAC, have been dominant in their respective singles careers but now aim to combine their strengths in this tag team setting. The Lucha Bros, with their high-flying offense and unyielding tenacity, stand in their way. Both teams are well-versed in both technical wrestling and aerial offense, making this match a clash of contrasting styles.
Match Description:
The Lucha Bros start strong with a blistering combination of quick tags and high-flying maneuvers, with Rey Fenix flying across the ring, flipping over Claudio for a near fall. However, PAC slows the pace, showing his mat-based skills and grounding the high-flyers with his brutal kicks and submissions. As the match progresses, it becomes clear that Claudio’s power and PAC’s high-impact offense can match the Lucha Bros’ speed and agility.
The crowd is on fire as both teams trade near falls. The finish comes when Claudio catches Penta in mid-air, lifting him for a devastating Neutralizer while PAC hits Rey Fenix with a brutal Black Arrow. The pin is academic, and Claudio & PAC advance to the next round.
Winners: Claudio Castagnoli & PAC
Match 2: FTR (Cash Wheeler & Dax Harwood) vs. Tama Tonga & Tonga Loa (G.O.D.)
Build-up: The old-school methodical FTR faces off against the brutal and dominant Guerrillas of Destiny. FTR prides itself on being one of the best tag teams in the world, but Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa’s hard-hitting style and street-smart tactics make them a dangerous and unpredictable force.
Match Description:
From the opening bell, FTR works over Tama Tonga, isolating him with quick tags and wearing him down with their technical mastery. However, Tama fights back and eventually tags in Tonga Loa, who comes in like a wrecking ball, swinging heavy fists and launching both Wheeler and Harwood with his sheer power.
The match sees multiple false finishes, with FTR looking to hit their Big Rig finish, but Tonga Loa breaks it up every time. Meanwhile, G.O.D. attempts to use their street-fighting style, but FTR keeps it clean with well-timed counters and double-team moves. The finish happens when FTR attempts their Big Rig again, but Tama Tonga catches Cash Wheeler mid-air with a Tama Tonga Cutter, stunning him, while Tonga Loa hits Apocalypse on Dax Harwood for the pin.
Winners: Tama Tonga & Tonga Loa (G.O.D.)
Match 3: Edge & Christian vs. Bobby Lashley & Shelton Benjamin
Build-up: The veteran duo of Edge & Christian faces the powerhouse team of Bobby Lashley & Shelton Benjamin. While Edge and Christian’s dynamic revolves around mind games, high-flying moves, and sheer willpower, Lashley and Benjamin come in with an intimidating mix of strength and agility.
Match Description:
Edge and Christian start by using their speed and agility, focusing on keeping the match at a fast pace and making quick tags. Lashley and Benjamin rely on their strength and power, cutting off the ring and isolating Christian for a long stretch. Christian has to fight tooth-and-nail to escape the beatdown, using his veteran instincts to create space for Edge to tag in.
Edge uses a spear early in the match on Shelton Benjamin, but Lashley breaks up the pin. Lashley then goes on a rampage, throwing both Edge and Christian around like ragdolls with his raw power. As Lashley looks to finish Edge off with a Dominator, Christian dives from the top rope to hit a Dropkick to break the move.
The end comes when Edge hits a Spear to Bobby Lashley, but Benjamin runs in to break the pin. Christian hits a Killswitch on Shelton Benjamin, allowing Edge to hit another Spear on Lashley for the pinfall victory.
Winners: Edge & Christian
Match 4: The Usos (Jimmy & Jey) vs. Street Profits (Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins)
Build-up: The high-flying, high-energy Street Profits meet the top-of-the-food-chain Usos, known for their ruthless aggression and championship pedigree. This match is about who has the better tag-team chemistry and the most effective way of controlling the tempo.
Match Description:
The Usos’ experience gives them the advantage early in the match, as they cut off the ring and dominate Angelo Dawkins with quick, brutal tags. Dawkins fights back, though, and tags in Montez Ford, who enters with a flurry of offense, hitting both Usos with a series of flying clotheslines, dropkicks, and an incredible Tope Con Hilo over the top rope.
The Usos recover, and Jimmy Uso catches Ford with a superkick, allowing the Usos to gain control. But Ford counters with his insane athleticism, hitting the From the Heavens frog splash on Jimmy Uso, only for Jey Uso to break up the pin at the last second. The match goes into overdrive, with near falls and high-flying sequences.
The finish comes when Montez Ford is about to hit another frog splash, but Jey Uso pushes him off the top rope, sending him crashing into the steel barricade. Jimmy Uso then rolls up Dawkins with a Schoolboy, holding the tights for leverage, and gets the three-count.
Winners: The Usos
Semi-Final 1: Claudio Castagnoli & PAC vs. Tama Tonga & Tonga Loa
Build-up: The hard-hitting G.O.D. faces the technically superior duo of Claudio & PAC. Both teams have dominated their way into the semi-finals, but they have entirely different strategies, making for an intriguing clash.
Match Description:
Claudio and PAC work to keep the match technical, targeting the legs and neck of Tonga Loa, while using quick strikes to keep Tama Tonga at bay. G.O.D. fights back with their power and brutal brawling style. Tonga Loa tosses Claudio around like a ragdoll, but PAC responds with his high-flying style, taking both members of G.O.D. off their feet.
The finish happens when PAC goes for a Black Arrow on Tama Tonga, but Tonga Loa catches him mid-air with a devastating Samoan Drop. Claudio then hits The Ricola Bomb on Tonga Loa, allowing PAC to get the fall on Tama Tonga after a top-rope 630 Senton.
Winners: Claudio Castagnoli & PAC
Semi-Final 2: Edge & Christian vs. The Usos
Build-up: Edge and Christian, despite their veteran status, have a clear target on their backs from The Usos, who have been dominant as tag team specialists. This semi-final has history written all over it.
Match Description:
The Usos attack Edge & Christian before the bell even rings, showing their aggression early. Edge and Christian recover, using their quickness and experience to gain the upper hand. The Usos’ physicality, however, starts to wear them down as Jimmy and Jey trap Christian in their corner, methodically dismantling him with double-team tactics.
Edge finally gets the hot tag and explodes with a series of moves, including a Edgecution on Jimmy, but Jey Uso breaks the pin. The finish comes when Edge locks Jey Uso in the Sharpshooter, while Christian prevents Jimmy from making the save with a Killswitch. Jey taps out, giving Edge & Christian the victory.
Winners: Edge & Christian
Final: Claudio Castagnoli & PAC vs. Edge & Christian
Build-up: Two of the most experienced tag teams in the world meet for the championship in the final match. Both teams have fought their way to this moment, and the stakes are higher than ever.
Match Description:
This is a battle of two different styles: Edge & Christian’s trickery and high-flying ability against Claudio & PAC’s raw power and technical skill. The match is a back-and-forth affair, with all four men pulling out all stops. Edge & Christian use high-impact moves like the Edgecution and Killswitch, while PAC uses his Black Arrow and Brutalizer submission.
The finish comes when PAC is about to hit The Black Arrow on Christian, but Edge distracts the referee, allowing Christian to low-blow PAC and hit a Spear for a near fall. As the match goes to the next level of intensity, Claudio catches Edge in mid-air with a European Uppercut, and then PAC delivers the Black Arrow to secure the win.
