Well, this is it! I just came home from celebrating day one of an incredible birthday weekend, it looks like we have our two Finals series for the NBA and Stanley Cup Playoffs all set for the first week of June. It’s been a pleasure writing these pieces for all of you good people, this is a little Birthday gift from me to you. Let’s get to it!
NBA FINALS
The Oklahoma City Thunder got the firepower to win it all! They have been an excellent team all season long. Winning 68 games, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander winning the season MVP, this team deserves its place among the celebrated NBA teams of all time should they complete their amazing season with the Larry O’Brien Trophy.
I thought the series they had vs. Minnesota was going to be a bit better than it turned out. OKC treated the T-Wolves like a mere annoyance; the only real threat they had was in the final seconds of Game 4 where Minnesota could’ve tied the series 2-2 but ended up with a crushing home loss. OKC was my personal pick to win the NBA title before the season started, and if they can play just as cohesively against Indiana, that’s what will happen.
Meanwhile, it’s been twenty-five years since the Indiana Pacers have had a chance to win an NBA title, and just like the New York Knicks, it’s 52 years since they won a championship. But in the case of the Pacers, it was their third title in the ABA. By all accounts Indy are the underdogs here; however, this team is battle-tested, they’re big, they play as a team which is the core of what basketball is all about, and like OKC they have a deadly transition game. You turn the ball over and they will capitalize on it! I know there are those who want to see the big city franchises. Ignore all that noise; do not hesitate to check out the NBA Finals between OKC and Indiana. This should be anabsolute clinic for those who love the game.
